We’ve all seen those ads floating around the internet saying how easy it is to create your own website using their program. While using these programs may be easy, they may ultimately work against you and your business.

First Impressions Matter

Your company’s web presence is a direct reflection of your company’s uniqueness, values, and creativity. Generic do-it-yourself templates are poorly designed, difficult to navigate, and most likely not mobile friendly. In the digital age, consumers are internet-savvy and can tell when a website is built using a generic template. To these consumers, generic websites reflect poorly on the company. Some users may feel that a company with a generic website is unprofessional, lazy, or unable to do the job.

Having a website that’s hard to navigate can hurt your business in more ways that you think. First, if a customer is unable to figure out their way around your site, they’ll most likely leave and head to the competition. They may even leave a bad review of you online. Secondly, it can affect your search engine rankings. Search engines like Google “crawl” your website for useful information that affects where you are in the ranking. If your site is too difficult to navigate, Google’s bots won’t be able to “crawl” your site, thus, making you appear lower in the rankings. Lastly, it can affect your bounce rate. Your bounce rate is when a customer leaves your website after only viewing one page. Google also factors a site’s bounce rate into its ranking. Websites with a high bounce rate appear lower in the rankings.

According to a report in 2015, mobile traffic makes up roughly 56% of all internet traffic. This means that over half of the traffic online comes from smart phones. To keep up with smart phone traffic, a company’s website needs to be mobile friendly. Since desktop computers are such much bigger than smart phones, websites tend to look and act different on them. Many generic web templates aren’t mobile friendly. This means that your customers will be spending more time zooming and scrolling around your site instead of getting information. This may also increase your bounce rate.

Maintenance And Assistance

If you aren’t an expert in coding, programming, and graphic design, chances are that you’re going to need some help when it comes to your website. As an amateur, you’re bound to make mistakes. Hiring a professional to build your website will mean that you always have the support you need. Most website builders offer little to no support when it comes to your site. When they do offer support, it also tends to be an extra charge. If you need something special built for your site that isn’t offered by the template, you won’t be able to get what you need.

At Bleazy USA, we have professional coders and programmers to help build a custom website that suit your business’s needs. Learn more about our Website Development services here!
