Define Your Goals
First, you have to clearly define your goals. A successful social media strategy can’t happen without creating goals. Are you new to social media and are looking to gain more followers? Or are you already established and looking to turn your followers into customers? Setting realistic goals allows you to adjust your social media strategy as needed. For example, knowing how many new followers you want on Facebook each month can help you decide if you need to boost your posts or not.
Identify Your Target Audience
Secondly, you have to identify your target audience. You need to figure out who you’re trying to reach. There are a number of way to collect this information.
Analytics on your social media accounts will give you insights as to your current demographics. You can also get analytics from your website. If you website doesn’t come with analytics already built in, you can connect it to a Google analytics account. If you’re a brick-and-mortar business, you can survey customers for more information.
Knowing who your target audience are is important in creating a social media strategy. Different social media platforms have different kinds of users. These users also like different types of content. For example, Instagram and YouTube tend to cater to a younger audience than Facebook. The Instagram and YouTube audiences also prefer more visual content like photos and videos over written articles.
Create Original Content
Creating original content takes a lot more effort and planning that it seems. For a successful social media strategy, take the time to create an original content strategy as well. Remember that content is key! Make your posts interesting in a very strategic way. Make your posts relevant to your business and have every post have a call to action like “read more on our blog” or “click here to use this coupon code”.
Think Mobile
Finally, think about your mobile users. Did you know that people check their phones about 150 times a day and that mobile traffic makes up about half of the traffic online? Your competitors are thinking about mobile users, so you should too. Make sure that the images you use are big enough to be seen on a mobile device. Make sure that any text or captions you write don’t take up too much space and leave mobile users scrolling.
