Engaging with your followers will create a connection between you and the customers. Social media platforms value this connection so much that they actually give an advantage to social media accounts with more engagement.
Facebook and Instagram have recently changed their algorithms to favor engagement. When a user likes or comments on your account, you’re account will start to show up on their newsfeed more. On Instagram, posts with a lot of engagement show up in the Top Tags, as well as suggested on the Explore page. YouTube and Twitter have similar features.
How To Engage
Take a look at your past social media posts. How many of them include mentions to other people? How many of your interactions are replies to other comments? If you’re like most companies, they the answer is probably not that many.
The best way to get your followers to engage with your content is to engage with them as well. The key ways to engage with your audience are to reply to others’ posts, retweeting, liking, and interacting with each comment. Did a user tag your company or product in a post? Make sure to like their post and comment on it! You can even report their content and tag them in it!
Two-way social media posts encourage conversation and engagement. If you’re sharing a link, ask for feedback or tag someone so they’ll reply!
