Tuesday Tip: Basics Of Filming A Video
It’s time for a Tuesday Tip! Today, we’re talking about the basics of filming a video!

Videos are the way of the future. With video-based sites like YouTube, Snapchat, and Vimeo, this should come as no surprise. Even Facebook launched its own video platform and Instagram increased the length limit of its videos. If you’re looking to create great videos for Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube, there are a few rules you should follow.
The Right Video Equipment
First, make sure you have the right equipment. You’ll need a tripod, lights, a microphone, and some kind of camera. If you don’t want to spend hundreds of dollars on a camera, try using your iPhone instead.
When looking for a tripod, look for one that has a cellphone attachment as well as a regular camera attachment. This will give you the option to record on your iPhone as well as a camera. For lights, soft box lights are the best, but ring lighting works well too. There is a huge variety of microphones out there, so finding one that you like should be easy.
The Proper Lighting
Second, make sure you have the proper lighting. If your subject is too dark, viewers won’t be able to see what you’re talking about. If it’s too light, you’ll look washed out. Bad lighting can also distort colors and faces. This can cause a green sweater to look brown on camera and your 20 year old speaker to look like she’s 50.
Practice, Practice, Practice
Last, make sure and rehearse what you’re going to say! Having a well thought out script will make you sound more knowledgeable and professional. Practice makes perfect!
Don’t just practice by yourself, practice in front of other people as well. Practicing in front of other people will help you get your timing and tone right. They can also offer you constructive criticism.
